Elegant Retaining Wall Design and Blooming Accents

At Peak Outdoor Solutions, we recently completed a retaining wall project that combined structural function with refined beauty. The homeowners needed a practical solution for grading and soil retention, but they also wanted something that would enhance the aesthetic of their outdoor space. The result was a clean, professional design using Anchor Diamond Pro Stone Cut wall blocks in a classic Pewter color.

To ensure durability and proper drainage, we installed a corrugated drain pipe behind the wall and backfilled it with clean drain stone. This setup allows water to move efficiently without building pressure behind the wall—protecting both the structure and the landscape around it.

For visual appeal, we incorporated a thoughtful planting plan. At the base and along the wall, we planted astilbe for soft texture and color, green gem boxwoods for year-round structure, and May Night salvia for bold purple blooms. We also added hydrangeas for summer interest and an ivory halo dogwood for its variegated leaves and seasonal contrast. Together, the mix creates a layered, dynamic look that changes with the seasons but remains visually balanced all year.

The homeowners were so pleased with the outcome that they invited us back to add an extra touch—an elegant tree ring around an existing tree. We used natural Fond du Lac stone to form the circle and filled the space with mulch, creating the perfect bed for planting spring bulbs. This small addition tied the entire front yard design together, giving it a cohesive, polished look.

If you're looking to upgrade your outdoor space with a combination of strong, clean lines and vibrant plant life, this type of retaining wall and landscape design might be just what your yard needs.
