When our clients asked Peak Outdoor Solutions to give their front entry “wow” factor, we designed a project that lifts the landscape—literally. The result is a raised retaining-wall bed that pairs classic Anchor® stonework with layered plantings, bullet-proof drainage, and an LED lighting package that turns heads after sunset.

1. Building the Backbone

• 6" compacted limestone base—laser-leveled, plate-compacted, and ready for decades of stability.

• Anchor® Hampton “Chocolate” wall block topped with matching capstones for a clean, finished silhouette.

• Hidden 4" corrugated drainpipe wrapped in 2' of washed drain rock and separated from soil by heavy filter fabric—preventing water pressure and soil wash-through.

2. Smart, Invisible Drainage

• We tied solid-wall PVC laterals from each gutter downspout into the wall drain, added clean-out risers, and daylighted the line through a discreet pop-up emitter in the lawn.

• Result: healthy root zones, no soggy soil, and an easy maintenance path for decades.

4. Landscape Lighting: Day-to-Night Drama

• Pathlights along the bed edge cast a soft, 3000 K glow that guides visitors up the walk.

• Adjustable accent lights uplight the Blue Arrow juniper and wash the warm-toned wall, showing off texture after dark.

• A weather-proof, low-voltage transformer—hidden out of sight—controls the system with an astronomical timer, so lights come on at dusk and off at dawn without lifting a finger.

• All fixtures are sealed LED brass for long life and zero bulb changes.

5. Instant Green Edges

Fresh strips of premium fescue sod angled down into the lawn keeps water away the driveway and into the existing lawn. Using a tiller to remove any high spots and a fresh layer of topsoil before installing the sod ensured any water buildup be kept away from the driveway, preventing erosion. We also added fresh sod along the trench from installing the drainage pipe for a flawless look.
